There are many ways (or metrics) that can be used to measure the success of a franchise business system. From my experience as a franchises consultant the most successful franchises all share some common characteristics that set them apart from their peers. In my opinion Entrepreneur’s yearly Franchise 500® list provides a very good and overall ranking of some of the most successful franchises in today’s market. According to their web site some of the most important metrics they use to establish the ranking order of their list of top franchises include financial strength and stability, growth rate, and the size of the franchise system. They also consider how long the franchiser has been franchising, start-up costs, litigation issues, and whether the franchise provides in house financing.
