As the US economy continues to improve (Albeit slowly) from the major economic downturn that began in 2008 there are number of small business categories that look very promising (in my opinion) in 2013 as top potential start-up options to consider. My favored small business option would be starting a health care related service business because of a number of very favorable factors and indisputable trends that bode extremely well for this category. Chief among them is the vast and growing aging baby boomer population here in the US (over 8,000 people turn 65 every day!) that all experts agree will provide high and recession proof demand for health care services for the foreseeable future. I believe this huge demographic shift should provide lots of niche local market opportunities for entrepreneurs to start businesses that for instance provide home care services to seniors and the elderly. This local market trend in my opinion has already begun and is evidenced by the growth and number of new home services franchise opportunities that are available today compared to 5 or 10 years ago. According to this article It should also be noted that home care services franchise businesses are reporting some very high profit margins and high level of owner satisfaction.
Other types of small business categories that I believe are positioned well for growth in 2013 include home improvement services, pet care related, and specialty retail stores like high end fashion consignment shops.
